Lucy Crowe was born in Staffordshire, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. The first time I saw her was at a performance of the Messiah in which I wasn’t a member of the audience, but a contralto in the Chorus. A couple of years later, she sang with British Youth Opera in one of my favourite roles, the Cunning Little Vixen, for which she rightly received very positive reviews. She sang Mozart’s Susanna for Garsington, then appeared as both Susanna and Barbarina (although not simultaneously) for Opera North. She has also sung roles including Papagena and Zerlina in The A-Z of Mozart Opera for Classical Opera Company. Most recently, Lucy made sang Poppea in ENO’s brilliant Agrippina, reviewed by Fit Crit and Barry Tone.

Lucy has also appeared for Opera North in Handel’s Saul. She sang Aspasia Mitridate for Classical Opera Company, and Sophie Der Rosenkavalier for Scottish Opera. She is also a successful recitalist, and was chosen to be one of the first Young Artists at the Wigmore Hall. She won second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, and the Royal Overseas Gold Medal. She sang Haydn’s Heligmasse at last year’s Proms.

Plans include returns to ENO as Drusilla L’incoronazione di Poppea; to Garsington as Elisa Il re pastore, and to Scottish Opera as Nannetta Falstaff.
